The amount of eating moments affects your weight & belly fat
I know that it is generally recommended to eat 3 main meals and 3 snacks per day. Because it supposed to be good to eat every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism going, right? I used to believe and apply this as well. But, as I started studying different point of views from science and getting more experience in practice, I adjusted my opinion on this. This is why:
- Every time you eat something, your blood sugar goes up. Your body produces insulin, and insulin holds on to your fat mass. It also results in being hungry very fast again, which makes you want to eat again. Hello vicious cycle…
- If your body needs to produce insulin so many times a day, after many years it may be that your body becomes insensitive to insulin. Which means it is not able to take out the sugars from your blood. This results in diabetes type II.
- Most of us don’t exercise too much anymore. We do everything by car and many people have an office job, which means that we spend 80-90% of the day sitting down. So, our body does NOT need to get in energy every 2-3 hours. Simply because we are not burning too much energy anymore.
- I think many of us are addicted to food. We live in a world where you can buy food on literally every street corner, and in every store. This makes us to overeat. Having so many eating moments per day, makes us even more addicted.
I recommend having a maximum of 4 eating moments per day; 3 main meals and no more than 1 snack. But make sure your meals are big enough that you won’t be hungry after 1 hour. 2 rice waffles with cold-cut meat are not a meal, it’s a (useless) snack.
Bottom line; do you want to lose weight and belly fat? Stop eating so many times a day! Give your body some rest in between meals. This way, you give your body the chance to actually use your fat mass to give your body energy.
